Coaching Course with Campus Tennis

A Transformative 4-Day Coaching Experience at Our Tennis Academy

This week we have had the privilege of hosting a 4-day intensive coaching course at our tennis academy, welcoming passionate tennis coaches from Campus Tennis in France. The course was meticulously designed to deepen coaching knowledge and enhance practical skills, offering a well-rounded curriculum that spanned three core components: technical training, fitness coordination, and psychological development.

1. Tennis Training: Mastering the Spanish Method and Clay Court Movement

The first component of the course was dedicated to on-court tennis training, with a particular focus on the Spanish method of coaching. Known for its emphasis on consistency, footwork, and tactical intelligence, this methodology was brought to life in practical sessions conducted by our director Raphael Maurer and our head coaches Jordane Doble and Fernando Gouveia.

Our tennis team explored advanced drills emphasizing:

  • Clay court movement: Learning the art of sliding, balance, and recovery on clay.

  • Drills for defense and attack: Structured exercises that simulate match situations to improve both offensive play and counterattacks.

  • Net play development: Techniques to sharpen reflexes, volleying, and transitions from baseline to net.

Each drill was paired with situational analysis to help coaches understand not just the how, but the why behind every movement and tactic.

2. Fitness Coordination: Building the Athlete’s Engine with our Fitness Director Sergi Valldaura

The second component revolved around physical conditioning, a key factor in developing top-level players. Coaches engaged in both theory sessions and practical demonstrations focused on:

  • Tennis-specific agility

  • Coordination drills

  • Periodization and workload management

Our fitness expert and fitness director Sergi Valldaura guided participants through routines that can be seamlessly incorporated into daily training schedules, enhancing athletic performance while maintaining long-term player health.

3. Psychological Component: Strengthening the Mental Game

Understanding that the mind plays as crucial a role as the body in competitive tennis, our final component addressed the psychological side of the sport. Our sports psychologist Pol Soto conducted sessions that covered:

  • Goal setting frameworks for athletes at various levels

  • Mental routines and emotional control techniques

  • Real-life examples of how professional players manage pressure, maintain focus, and build resilience

  • The role of parents

In Conclusion

The 4-day coaching course with Campus Tennis was not only an opportunity for knowledge sharing, but also a celebration of the dedication and curiosity that drive tennis coaches to constantly evolve. We hope that through immersive sessions and expert guidance, every coach left the academy with actionable insights and renewed enthusiasm to elevate their coaching practices.

We look forward to organizing more such programs and continuing our mission of building a strong and informed coaching community.
