Biofeedback training sessions

Biofeedback is one of the tools applied by our team of psychologists to work on our players’ responses to stress. Below we include the team’s summary of what they have been focusing on in recent mental sessions.

‘Biofeedback (BFK) training:

One of the most effective mental tools adopted by professional players to control anxiety is biofeedback.

Anxiety is an activation of sensations, thoughts and moods that are negative or cause alarm in the athlete. This is usually triggered by external stimuli perceived as threatening, even if they are not.

The manifestations of anxiety can be both somatic (anxiety is characterized by symptoms related to the activation of the body such as tachycardia, muscle rigidity, increased blood pressure, etc.) and psychological (low self-confidence, distorted thoughts, trouble sleeping, etc.).

For example, during one of our training sessions with BFK in BTA, players had to move a car on the screen with their mind through keeping a relaxed state of mind, thus working to control their somatic response.

Training that develops this type of learning is vital in situations demanding calmness in preparation and under pressure of performance as well as in situations calling for improved focus, concentration and power delivery when it’s really needed.  Biofeedback training also builds confidence as the athlete learns that "harmful" stress can be dissipated and an optimal level of performance can be reached.

Adopting the BFK Respiración we will see the ability of the athlete to breathe adequately, with sessions of 10 minutes, first sitting and then standing, using a sensor in the form of an abdominal tape.

With galvanic conductance BFK we can see in real time the degree of activation from the sweat on the fingers of the hands.’
