BTA Player of September

This academic year our team of psychologists has come up with the inspiring idea of 10 values for 10 months. Each month players will be introduced to one key value & at the end of each month the team will pick a player that represents the value in the most complete way.

Value of the month in September: PERSEVERANCE; Player: AXEL BRUN!

What does it mean to be persevering?

  • I attend all training sessions with a good attitude.

  • When I set a goal, I work hard to achieve it.

  • I maintain intensity and concentration from the beginning to the end of the exercises.

  • In difficult situations or when things don't work out for me, I keep trying.

  • When I get tired, I keep working with the same intensity.

  • In exercises that are repetitive I set small goals to maintain concentration.

Exercise

To practise this value we have challenged our players with numerous on-court tasks such as different drills and matches as well as off-court juggling with tennis balls, solving puzzles, Legos ... and, without a doubt, Axel appeared as a future contestant of “You got talent”, stunning us with his skills with the Rubik’s cube.

It is clear that Axel must have an innate talent to do it so well, a great manual coordination and mental quickness, but, undoubtedly, that genetic talent will not represent more than 20% (as the studies on intelligence and talent say), but the excellence that Axel has obtained with the Rubik's cube is due to the endless hours of practice he put in to master it. It is down to his staying persistent when faced with a new Rubik challenge, each more difficult than the previous one. Instead of getting frustrated when it seems impossible to solve it, he keeps on trying persistently until he gets it done.

Practice makes perfect

Congratulations to Axel on his persevering attitude that will help him go very far in everything that he encounters in his life!
